Study of the cardiovascular complications of diabetes mellitus in Beijing and Tianjin, China.

According to the WHO Multinational Study1) on the vascular complications of diabetes mellitus, the prevalence rates of microvascular complications in diabetic patients were the same both in Asiatic (Japan and Hong Kong) and Western countries, but the rates of cardiovascular complications were far lower in Asiatic than that in Western countries. We had the same result in our study done in the past, but owing to the lack of concordant criteria for diagnosis, comparabi lity was hard to achieve.
